Giorgi Baramidze, political secretary of the United National Movement, on Friday said discussions were ongoing with the country’s international partners about what he described as efforts to “save Georgia” from isolation and a shift away from its European trajectory.
He made the remarks ahead of a meeting between members of an opposition alliance and the British ambassador to Georgia.
Baramidze said opposition representatives were engaging with “all of Georgia’s friends” to discuss the country’s political direction and accused the ruling authorities of steering the country towards isolation and closer alignment with Russia.
He claimed that Georgia’s Western partners, including the United Kingdom, support the Georgian public’s aspiration for a “civilised, peaceful and European” future.
