Giorgi Burjanadze, a representative of Open Society Georgia foundation, has claimed that the ruling Georgian Dream party used substances during last November–December that are “far removed from the norms of international law”.

Burjanadze added Georgia has faced “serious allegations” related to the possible use of chemical agents, but instead of conducting a genuine investigation, the authorities merely imitated one.

He added that what followed was not a real investigation but a superficial attempt to respond within a very short timeframe.

“What we saw was an imitation of an investigation, an attempt to provide answers within two days and even that was done hastily. The main goal was to sweep this issue under the rug and remove it from the agenda. In reality, the opposite is true: this serious matter requires clear answers,” Burjanadze stated.

He highlighted that international organisations and Georgia’s international partners have also called for proper clarification and accountability regarding the allegations.
