Ruling party MP hails Atlantic Council index as proof of government's economic record

A Georgian Dream lawmaker has said a newly published Atlantic Council Freedom and Prosperity Index demonstrated the success of the ruling party's policies, arguing that Georgia has achieved the world's largest improvement in prosperity over the past 13 years.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Giorgi Chakvetadze said the index showed Georgia ranked first globally for progress in prosperity between 2013 and 2025, following what he described as a period of uninterrupted peace and strengthened sovereignty under the Georgian Dream government.

"With Bidzina Ivanishvili's victory on 1 October 2012, uninterrupted peace was established in Georgia and the country's sovereignty was genuinely strengthened," Chakvetadze wrote.

He said Georgia had reached a "historic maximum" in the global prosperity rankings, outperforming all European Union candidate countries as well as five EU and NATO member states.

According to the Atlantic Council's 2026 Freedom and Prosperity Index, Georgia ranks 43rd globally in prosperity and 73rd in freedom. The report stated that the country recorded the world's largest improvement in its prosperity score over the 2013 - 2025 period, while its freedom score has declined in recent years.

Chakvetadze attributed the country's economic progress to what he described as the government's "pragmatic and well-considered policy of peace", saying it had produced sustained economic growth and stronger performances in international rankings.

He also argued that external pressure on Georgia had intensified in recent years but that the government had successfully resisted those efforts.

The Atlantic Council report assesses 171 countries and territories using indicators of political, legal and economic freedom, alongside measures of prosperity including income, health, education, environmental quality, minority rights and equality.
