Giorgi Gabunia, chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Culture Committee and leader of the civic movement Kartuli, on Saturday said Georgia’s peace and development would remain secure regardless of political events surrounding the October 4 elections.

He emphasised that while freedom of expression was guaranteed, unlawful actions would not go unpunished.

“Of course, every individual has freedom of expression, but as soon as any action goes beyond the legal framework, the law will respond with full strictness,” he noted.

Gabunia dismissed opposition leaders, including Paata Burchuladze, saying they lacked public support.

“They have only a small, paid activist base they can gather on Rustaveli Avenue or Melikishvili Avenue. That is their only resource. They do not have society’s support, and society will make its position clear on October 4. Once again, nothing will happen on October 4 or October 5. Georgia will remain peaceful and on the path of development, and no one will be able to obstruct this process,” he said.
