International affairs expert Giorgi Rukhadze said Péter Magyar now has the opportunity to fundamentally change the course of Hungary following the electoral victory.

According to Rukhadze, Magyar has the mandate and political leverage to reverse policies introduced during the rule of Viktor Orbán, which he claims have held the country back.

“Magyar can change absolutely everything that Orbán has left behind and that has seriously dragged the country down. He will no longer have excuses about obstacles preventing reforms. He has everything needed to implement his agenda,” Rukhadze said.

He added that the shift in power reflects the will of Hungarian voters after 16 years of Orbán’s leadership.

“This is the achievement of the Hungarian people, who gave a mandate to a young leader after 16 years of Orbán’s rule,” he noted.

Rukhadze also argued that Hungary’s economic standing has declined over the past decade and a half, claiming the country has fallen behind compared to its previous position in Europe.

According to preliminary election results, the opposition Tisza party has secured 138 seats in parliament, granting it a constitutional majority and signaling the end of Orbán’s 16-year tenure in power.
