Giorgi Sosiashvili, Deputy Chair of Georgia’s Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science, and Youth Affairs, has said that Ukraine’s authorities should have taken steps earlier to prevent the country from being drawn into what he described as a disastrous and unwinnable war.
He said Ukrainian leaders sacrificed their own citizens by engaging in a conflict they knew was unequal and doomed to result in territorial losses and widespread destruction.
“Calling on people to leave cities is understandable, but the authorities in Kyiv and Ukraine as a whole should have acted much earlier to avoid putting the country in this tragedy and sacrificing so many lives,” Sosiashvili said.
He added that leadership requires acting with prudence and prioritising the interests of the population, something he believes Ukrainian authorities failed to do.
Sosiashvili argued that the consequences of these decisions have led Ukraine to what he described as a “complete catastrophe.”
His comments come as Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to temporarily leave the capital following massive bombardment that caused large-scale disruptions to the city’s heating system.
