Giuli Alasania, mother of Georgia’s third president Mikheil Saakashvili, has questioned the authorities’ explanation that her son’s health had improved, leading to his transfer from the Vivamedi Tbilisi Clinic back to Penitentiary Facility No. 12.

“They said his health had improved. As far as I know, there have been no medical examinations for quite some time”, Alasania told Formula TV.

She added that she learned about the transfer by phone and had no direct contact with the Vivamedi clinic.

“I heard about it over the phone. There was no communication from Vivamedi. They said his health had improved, but as far as I know, no checkups have been done for a while”, she said.

The Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia on Wednesday said Saakashvili was transferred from the Vivamedi clinic to Penitentiary Facility No. 12 after doctors determined that his health condition was satisfactory and no longer required inpatient treatment.
