Georgia's higher education quality assurance mechanisms fully comply with European standards, minister

Georgia's higher education quality assurance mechanisms are fully compliant with European standards, according to a final expert report published by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, Education Minister Givi Mikanadze has said.

Mikanadze described the findings as significant recognition of recent reforms and achievements in the country's education quality assurance system.

He said the report would form the basis of an application to be submitted in the coming days by Georgia's National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement to the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education.

"This decision will form the basis of the application that the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement will submit to the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education, so that a corresponding decision can be made this autumn and the center's status can be restored, which would represent another important recognition," Mikanadze said.

He said improving quality assurance was one of the priority areas of Georgia's higher education reform.

"Significant steps have been taken in recent months, both in terms of legislative changes and internal regulatory acts. Following an application by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, ENQA conducted a detailed assessment of these changes and reforms. The report published today is the result of that process and will provide the basis for further important achievements," Mikanadze said.
