Air Force reports Russian missile struck private sports complex, not Ukrainian military training ground

Yuriy Ignat, head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has said a Russian ballistic missile struck a private sports complex in Kyiv region rather than a Ukrainian military training ground.

“This is not a training ground. It is a private sports complex and has no connection to the military,” Ignat said.

He added that law enforcement authorities would assess the actions of those responsible for organising the event that was taking place at the site.

According to Ruslan Oleinyk, acting head of the Kyiv Oblast military administration, emergency services remain at the scene of the attack in Bucha district.

Oleinyk said the strike damaged 27 private homes and 44 vehicles, while the number of people killed and injured is still being verified.

Earlier today, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on the Kyiv region. Preliminary reports indicated that 10 people were killed and around 100 others injured, with Bucha district sustaining the heaviest damage.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said investigators had opened criminal proceedings under articles relating to war crimes and possible negligence in the organisation of the event, which may have contributed to the loss of life and other serious consequences.
