PM Kobakhidze meets Georgia’s incoming ambassador to Azerbaijan

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has met Giorgi Zakarashvili, Georgia’s newly appointed ambassador to Azerbaijan, ahead of his taking up the post on 1 October.

Kobakhidze congratulated Zakarashvili on his appointment and wished him success, while highlighting the importance of his diplomatic mission in further strengthening Georgia’s strategic partnership with Azerbaijan, the government press office said on Thursday.

Zakarashvili has served as Georgia’s ambassador to Ukraine and permanent representative to GUAM since 2021. His term in those positions ends on 1 October.

From 2016 to 2019, he served as Georgia’s Minister Plenipotentiary at the Section of Interests of Georgia at the Embassy of Switzerland in Russia. Between 2012 and 2016, he was Minister Plenipotentiary at Georgia’s embassy in Ukraine and its permanent representation to GUAM.

He has also served as director of the Political Department of the Foreign Ministry and head of the division responsible for relations with Central Asian countries.
