Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has met India’s Ambassador to Georgia, Amit Kumar Mishra, to discuss strengthening economic and bilateral cooperation.
Kobakhidze congratulated Mishra on his appointment and wished him success in his new role, the Georgian government’s press office said on Monday.
The meeting highlighted the importance of opening an Indian embassy in Tbilisi as a step towards further deepening relations between the two countries.
The sides discussed economic cooperation, with particular emphasis on increasing trade and making greater use of the existing potential between Georgia and India.
They also discussed cooperation within international organisations and the need for closer coordination in multilateral formats.
Tourism, culture and education were also on the agenda. The Georgian government said the number of visitors from India has been increasing, while interest among Indian students in studying at Georgian universities has also grown.
Mishra is India’s first resident ambassador to Georgia. He presented copies of his credentials to Georgia’s diplomatic protocol authorities in March 2026 and presented his credentials to President Mikheil Kavelashvili in May.
India’s embassy in Tbilisi has been operating since 2025, with its consular services becoming operational in October that year.
