Georgian PM: ALDE Calls Itself Liberal, but Its Representatives Are the ‘Main Anti-Liberals’

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has criticised representatives of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), arguing that despite describing themselves as liberals, their actions are fundamentally “anti-liberal.”

“They call themselves liberals the representatives of ALDE but as you can see, they are the main anti-liberals, in the proper sense of the word,” Kobakhidze told reporters.

The Prime Minister claimed that ALDE representatives “have no principles,” citing what he described as their failure to distance themselves from an alleged criminal act involving Georgian opposition politician Aleko Elisashvili.

“This is precisely why they did not distance themselves from the criminal act committed by Aleko Elisashvili. More broadly, they support radicalisation in our country,” Kobakhidze said.

“This is their political agenda. Georgian society sees it clearly and evaluates it accordingly,” he added.
