PM Kobakhidze Thanks Willy Sagnol for Contribution to Georgian Football

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has thanked Willy Sagnol for his contribution to the development of Georgian football following the French coach’s departure from the national team.

“I would like to thank Willy Sagnol for the invaluable contribution he has made to the development of Georgian football. Our national team achieved its greatest success to date under his leadership. I wish him every success in his future coaching career,” Kobakhidze wrote on social media.

Sagnol had led Georgia since 2021. Under his management, the national team qualified for a major international tournament for the first time, reaching UEFA Euro 2024 and advancing to the round of 16.

The Georgian Football Federation announced on Saturday that Sagnol had left his post and that Georgian coach Ramaz Svanadze would take charge of the national team until the end of 2028.
