Georgian PM Compares Opposition to ‘Dead Fish,’ Says It Lacks Support on Streets and at Ballot Box

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has compared the country’s opposition to “dead fish,” claiming it lacks the political resources to succeed either through street protests or elections.

“The opposition truly resembles dead fish in its entire substance and in the way it presents itself today. They have no resources either on the streets or in elections,” Kobakhidze told reporters.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while commenting on a statement by Georgian opera singer and political activist Paata Burchuladze.

“The only interesting part of Paata Burchuladze’s statement is precisely this passage the opposition really does resemble dead fish in its entire substance and in its current form,” Kobakhidze said.

“They talk about elections one day and the streets the next, but in reality they are unsuccessful in both,” he added.

Kobakhidze went on to attribute what he described as the opposition’s failures to a lack of principles and commitment to the country.

“Of course, this will continue for one simple reason: they have no principles, they do not love the country, and that is precisely why they have not achieved and will not achieve any success,” the Prime Minister said.
