Kobakhidze Calls for Legal Action Against TV Channels Over Allegedly False Reports

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has called for the use of all available legal mechanisms to challenge what he described as false information disseminated by certain television broadcasters, accusing them of attempting to target Georgian Dream founder and honorary chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili.

Speaking to journalists in Brussels, Kobakhidze commented on media reports concerning Ivanishvili’s son, Bera Ivanishvili, stressing that he is not involved in politics.

“Bera Ivanishvili himself is not involved in politics. What certain so-called television channels did was, of course, yet another attempt to attack the founder and honorary chairman of our party,” Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of pursuing legal action to establish whether misleading or inaccurate information had been disseminated.

“It is extremely important to pursue legal avenues and establish through legal procedures that such grossly inaccurate information is being spread. This was done in this particular case, and we certainly welcome it,” he said.

Kobakhidze further argued that legal mechanisms should be used consistently to hold broadcasters accountable for what he characterized as false reporting.

“It is important to use every available legal instrument on each occasion to expose television channels that are built on falsehoods and demonstrate that they are spreading lies,” the Prime Minister stated.
