Israel’s Embassy in Georgia expresses condolences over the death of Patriarch Ilia II

The Embassy of Israel in Georgia has extended its condolences following the death of Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.
In a statement, the embassy described his passing as a profound loss for Georgia and the entire Orthodox Christian world. “He was a spiritual leader whose name is inseparably linked with national unity, the revival of the country’s spiritual life, and the consolidation of society,” the statement said.
On behalf of the Government and people of Israel, Ambassador Walid Abu Haya and the embassy conveyed their sincere condolences to the Georgian people and the Georgian Orthodox Church.
Ilia II died on March 17 at the age of 93. A period of national mourning has been declared in Georgia.
