Maritime Transport Agency Director: Anaklia Port construction enters new phase as dredging begins

The construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port has entered another new phase, with dredging of the entrance channel and turning basin now underway, Maritime Transport Agency Director Ivane Abashidze said.

According to Abashidze, two vessels from the fleet of Belgian company Jan De Nul Group - Al-Idrisi and Tristao Da Cunha - are carrying out construction works at the site simultaneously.

Abashidze said the port’s construction has now entered a new and more complex stage.

“This creates greater confidence among our partners, particularly regarding the Georgian corridor and Georgia’s transport and logistics sector. It also provides significant guarantees that the cargo flows attracted to Georgia, which have increased in recent years, particularly over the past two years, will remain within Georgia’s transit corridor, and that the Anaklia Port will serve these increased cargo flows moving through Georgia’s transit corridors,” Abashidze said.
