Director of Georgia’s Maritime Transport Agency Ivane Abashidze on Thursday said Georgia is evolving from a transit corridor into a “reliable partner” providing “secure, efficient and predictable” connectivity between Europe and Asia.
Abashidze noted statistics for January-April show Georgia’s maritime sector is developing dynamically, with growth recorded across virtually all major ports and terminals.
He said the increase in cargo volumes processed at Georgian ports and terminals was largely driven by the arrival of large-tonnage vessels.
“This positive result is not accidental. Increased efficiency, optimisation of operations, reduction of bureaucratic processes, cooperation between the public and private sectors, as well as infrastructure and digital development are creating the foundation for Georgian ports to become modern, competitive and regionally important logistics hubs,” Abashidze said.
The Agency said the total volume of cargo processed at Georgia’s maritime ports and terminals in January-April increased by 21 per cent compared to the same period last year.
The body also reported continued growth in container traffic, with the number of processed containers measured in TEU rising by eight per cent during the reporting period.
