European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has condemned the reported impact of a Russian drone on a residential building in Romania, describing it as a serious violation of both Romanian sovereignty and European airspace.
In a post on social media on Friday, Kallas said she had spoken with Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu and expressed the EU's full solidarity with Romania following the incident.
"The drone's impact on a residential building in Galați is a clear and serious violation of Romania's sovereignty and European airspace," Kallas wrote.
She added that Russia had long ceased respecting international borders and warned that Moscow should not be allowed to violate European airspace without consequences.
"Russia stopped respecting borders a long time ago. Moscow must not be allowed to breach European airspace with impunity," she said.
Kallas noted that EU foreign ministers had pledged to increase pressure on Russia, strengthen support for Ukraine and invest further in Europe's defence readiness.
The comments came after a Russian drone struck a 10-storey residential building in the Romanian border city of Galați, injuring two people.
