Russia’s latest massive strikes on Ukraine undermine the pursuit of peace, US Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said on Thursday in a social media post.

He stated Russia carried out its second-largest air assault since the start of the full-scale war, deploying 600 drones and 31 missiles.

“The targets? Not soldiers or weapons, but Kyiv’s residential districts — civilian trains, offices of the EU and UK missions, and innocent, peaceful people. These outrageous attacks threaten the peace toward which the US President is striving”, Kellogg wrote.

On the night of August 28, Russia launched a massive strike against Ukraine, hitting the capital with Shahed drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles, including Kinzhal hypersonic weapons. For the first time since the beginning of the war, destruction was reported across all districts of Kyiv.

Nineteen people, including teenagers, have been confirmed killed so far.

Russia also targeted diplomatic facilities, damaging the building of the EU mission in Ukraine. European Council President António Costa condemned the attack, stressing that the EU would not be intimidated.

Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Russia’s strike on diplomatic missions constituted a direct violation of the Vienna Convention.
