Two Arrested Over Cybercrime That Allegedly Caused Bank GEL 374,715 in Losses

Two people have been arrested in Tbilisi on charges of illegally interfering with a computer system as part of an alleged scheme to obtain financial gain, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

According to the ministry, officers from the Main Investigative Division of the Tbilisi Police Department detained the suspects following a series of investigative measures.

The investigation found that the suspects allegedly gained unauthorised access to the computer system of a bank with the intention of obtaining a large financial benefit. Authorities said the pair interfered with the bank’s computer system without authorisation, causing financial losses amounting to GEL 374,715.

The suspects were arrested on the basis of a court order.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 286¹ of Georgia’s Criminal Code. The offence carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
