The number of people killed and injured in Russia’s large-scale aerial attack on Kyiv has risen, according to local authorities.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that at least two people were killed and 56 injured in the overnight assault.
“It was a terrible night for Kyiv. Rescue workers are currently extinguishing fires and clearing debris. Medics are providing assistance to the injured,” Klitschko said.
The Mayor added 30 of the wounded have been taken to hospital, including two children who are reported to be in a moderate condition.
Three people remain in serious condition, while 16 others received outpatient medical treatment.
During the night of 24 May, Russia launched a wave of ballistic missile and drone strikes against the Ukrainian capital.
Hours before the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that, according to information from American and European partners, Russia was preparing to strike Ukraine with an Oreshnik ballistic missile. He urged Ukrainians to respond immediately to air raid alerts and seek shelter.
