Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that the current escalation between the United States and Iran was potentially explosive, posing risks not only to Iran but to the entire Middle East.

“There are many mines here that are ready to explode - they are simply waiting for someone to step on them,” Lavrov said.

He stressed that Iran is a close partner and neighbour of Russia, adding that Moscow could not remain indifferent to the increasingly complex situation in the region.

“I believe Israel, the United States and Iran understand that we are ready to contribute to resolving the situation and to the implementation of previously reached agreements,” Lavrov pledged.
