Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament Levan Makhashvili on Saturday said “double standards” are “clearly evident” in criticism directed at Georgia by countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany.

“All countries, especially amid today’s political turbulence, are trying to protect their democracy, electoral processes, politics and economy. Georgia is doing the same,” he said.

“At the same time, we clearly see the double standards and differing approaches from certain countries, which, driven by narrow political interests, attempt to criticise Georgia and label certain initiatives as ‘Russian laws’, while facing similar challenges themselves and taking similar steps,” Makhashvili added.

He said that what he described as “falsehood and double standards” from countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany had become increasingly apparent, reiterating that earlier criticism of Georgia had been “completely unfounded.”
