Georgia is ‘peace island’ in the region, Gov’t Administration Head

Georgia is a "peace island" not only in the South Caucasus but across the wider region, creating the conditions for stronger economic growth than many other countries in the coming years, the head of the government administration, Levan Zhorzholiani, said on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists, Zhorzholiani said Georgia's stable environment and the government's economic policies had underpinned strong growth and attracted investment.

He said the country's economy had expanded by an average of 9.3% over the past five years, adding that economic performance during the first five months of this year had also been strong.

"We often see in international rankings that Georgia is expected to be among the leading countries in terms of economic growth in the coming years," Zhorzholiani said.

He attributed the performance to the government's “sound economic policy,” investment in infrastructure and rising foreign direct investment, which he said had been supported by the country's stability.

"Georgia is a kind of peace island not only in the South Caucasus but in the wider region. This will ensure that Georgia enjoys significantly higher economic growth than many other countries in the years ahead, and we are working to maintain this trend," he said
