Commander Mamulashvili: ‘Georgievsk’ formation by ex-Prosecutor General aims to send message to Georgian fighters in Ukraine

The creation of the “Georgievsk” armed formation in Russia is intended to send a message that Georgians are fighting on both sides of the war in Ukraine, Mamuka Mamulashvili, commander of the Georgian National Legion fighting in Ukraine, said.

According to Mamulashvili, the formation is intended to create what he described as a “second Georgian Legion” that would effectively assist Russia in the occupation of another country.

“For me, the creation of an armed formation by [former Prosecutor General Otar] Partskhaladze under the name ‘Georgievsk’ is not merely one person’s decision. Most likely, it is a decision of the Russian special services,” Mamulashvili said.

“The most important thing is the message they want to send by creating such formations. They want to say that Georgians are fighting on both sides. Through these formations, they want to create a second Georgian Legion, which would, in fact, help Russia occupy another country,” he added.

Mamulashvili also expressed doubt that former Georgian Prosecutor General Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze would personally take part in fighting on the front line.

“This is a criminal act. I am ashamed that such a person was the prosecutor general of Georgia. I am convinced that Partskhaladze will never appear on the front line, despite their statement that they intend to establish a formation and that he plans to operate on the front line,” he said.

A Russian “international volunteer” unit called “Georgievsk” has been established to fight against Ukraine and is led by former Georgian Prosecutor General Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze, described as a “veteran of the special military operation.”
