Emergency services in Georgia have rescued an injured tourist from Mount Tetnuldi in the north-western region of Svaneti.

The Emergency Management Service said the tourist became unwell while climbing with a group at an altitude of nearly 5,000 metres in the alpine zone near the summit.

Mountain rescuers from the Mestia unit responded to the scene with specialised equipment, while a helicopter from the Interior Ministry’s Border Police was deployed to assist in the evacuation.

The tourist was airlifted to hospital, where they are receiving medical care.

Officials said the joint mountain rescue operation was coordinated by the Emergency Management Service’s special response team.
