Reuters: Starmer expected to announce resignation plans on Monday

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to announce plans to step down on Monday and present a clear timetable for his departure from office, Reuters reported.

According to the report, Starmer has concluded that remaining in office is no longer appropriate. The decision reportedly follows a series of discussions with Government ministers, advisers, donors and trade union leaders.

Reuters said the Prime Minister is expected to hold final consultations on the matter with his wife at the Chequers country residence before making a definitive decision.

The report adds that Starmer intends to organise an orderly transfer of power and is likely to set a timeline that would see him formally leave office before the Labour Party conference in September.
