Georgian president meets WHO chief to discuss healthcare cooperation

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has met World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to discuss longstanding cooperation and prospects for further partnership in healthcare.

The talks focused on healthcare reforms implemented in Georgia with WHO support, the president’s press office said on Wednesday.

The meeting highlighted the contribution of this cooperation to the development of Georgia's universal healthcare system, primary healthcare reform, improvements in pharmaceutical policy and strengthening the country's public health capabilities.

The two sides also discussed Georgia's recent achievements, including obtaining malaria-free status, expanding access to innovative medicines and ongoing reforms in digital healthcare.

Georgia's involvement in the WHO's activities was also highlighted, including its membership of the organisation's Executive Board and co-chairmanship of the Group of Friends of Universal Health Coverage.

The two sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue cooperation on strengthening Georgia's healthcare system, introducing modern standards and deepening joint efforts in global health, the press service said.
