The Georgian Government on Friday said it had completely ended the practice of transferring state property through direct sales at symbolic prices, rejecting media reports alleging that it recently sold part of a property in central Tbilisi below market value.
In a statement, the Government Administration dismissed reports that it had sold 3,237 square metres of space in the Hotel Sakartvelo building at a symbolic price, describing the claims as “grossly misleading”.
The Administration added the transfer was a formal legal procedure intended to correct a discrepancy between the property's actual size and measurements recorded by the state years earlier.
The body said the hotel had been fully privatised many years ago and had changed ownership several times since. It argued that the additional registered area did not increase the owner’s actual property holdings but merely aligned the official records with the existing physical dimensions of the building.
The Administration also said the reports either reflected a failure to establish the relevant facts or amounted to the deliberate dissemination of misleading information.
It added that since 8 February 2024, the Government has ended the practice of disposing of state property through direct transfers at symbolic prices and intends to maintain that policy.
The Government called on media organisations to refrain from publishing “inaccurate and misleading information”.
