Lawyer Omar Purtseladze has said three members of United Neutral Georgia testified in court that the United States had sought to stage a coup in Georgia, while one witness named senior European Union officials as supporters and allies of an alleged foreign agent group.
“The United States is referred to as a hostile state in the indictment. Today, we can confirm that three members of United Neutral Georgia gave this testimony in court,” Purtseladze said.
He said the witnesses claimed the CIA had sought to organise a coup in Georgia and that the defendants had cooperated with the agency.
“They believe that the hostile state acting against Georgia is the United States,” Purtseladze said.
According to the lawyer, Levan Nikoleishvili testified that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos were supporters and allies of the alleged agent group.
Purtseladze said Nikoleishvili had specifically asked him not to omit Kos from the list of officials he named.
