Police have arrested one person on suspicion of assaulting Georgian stand-up comedian and civic activist Onise Okriashvili, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Thursday.
The Ministry said the incident took place in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi on Wednesday, when the suspect allegedly physically assaulted Okriashvili before fleeing the scene.
The body added that shortly after the incident, one individual voluntarily appeared at the Vake-Saburtalo Police Department and was subsequently arrested as a suspect.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 126 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which concerns violence. Investigative activities are ongoing, the Ministry said.
According to Okriashvili’s friends, the comedian was attacked near his home by three individuals.
