A delegation of the Parliament of Georgia took part in the 71st Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, held in Slovenia between Sunday and Monday.
The Georgian Parliament’s press service on Monday said the country’s representatives presented amendments during the committee discussions of reports and resolutions, focusing on Georgia’s progress toward European and Euro-Atlantic integration, ongoing political developments, the situation in the occupied regions and the country’s security and foreign policy priorities.
The delegation members paid particular attention to the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and introduced amendments to the Assembly’s resolution concerning NATO’s future strategy toward Russia. They reaffirmed Georgia’s firm commitment to the values and principles of the Alliance in discussions with the Assembly’s leadership, the body added.
During the session, the Georgian Parliamentary Delegation’s status was upgraded from “Associate Member” to the new category of “Partners for Comprehensive Security”. This new category also includes the European Parliament, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria’s Parliament and others, the press office said.
The Parliament also said this institutional change would further strengthen parliamentary diplomacy among NATO partner countries and deepen cooperation with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
