Georgia’s Patriarch sends condolences following passing of Pope Francis

The Press Service of the Patriarchate of the Georgian Orthodox Church has published a letter of condolence from Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, addressed to Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, following the passing of Pope Francis.
In the letter, Patriarch Ilia II expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the clergy and faithful of the Roman Catholic Church. He acknowledged Pope Francis’ contributions to peace, humility, and social causes, emphasizing the Pope’s close ties with the Georgian Church.
The Patriarch recalled that since 2014, the Holy Liturgy in the Georgian language has been celebrated in Rome with Pope Francis’ blessing. He also highlighted the Pope’s invitation to the Choir of the Holy Trinity Cathedral to perform at the Sistine Chapel, showcasing Georgian polyphonic church hymns and folk songs to the world.
Patriarch Ilia II concluded his message with prayers for the soul of Pope Francis.
“We express our deep respect for him and we are praying for his immortal soul,” the letter reads.
