German Ambassador Peter Fischer has expressed condolences to the people of Georgia following the death of Ilia II.

“My sincere condolences to the people of Georgia on the passing of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. As spiritual father, he guided the nation through joy and sorrow. I learned that he knew Germany well. May His Holiness rest in peace,” said the Ambassador in a post on X.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II died today, March 17, at the age of 93.
