Polish National Suspected of Killing Six in Krakow Attack, Police Say

A 25 year old Polish citizen has been detained on suspicion of carrying out a deadly attack in central Krakow that left six people dead and 12 others injured, including two police officers, Polish radio station RMF FM reported.

According to Polish police, the suspect was taken into custody following the attack in the city’s Main Market Square (Rynek Główny).

Authorities also dismissed earlier reports suggesting that a police officer had been killed or that a second attacker may have been involved.

“The only known perpetrator of the incident is currently in police custody,” authorities said.

According to media reports, the attacker drove a black Subaru into the square before opening fire on pedestrians with an AR 15 style rifle.

Police shot and wounded the suspect during the operation. He was subsequently transported to a hospital in Krakow for medical treatment.

Polish law enforcement officials said the suspect appeared to have acted alone.

The circumstances surrounding the attack and the suspect’s possible motive remain unclear.
