Prosecutor's Office charges two more people in case over Abkhaz blogger Buava's death

The Prosecutor's Office has charged two more individuals as part of the ongoing criminal investigation into the death of Abkhaz blogger Daur Buava.

The Prosecutor's Office on Monday said investigators have established at this stage that on August 22, G.G. gave methadone to Ukrainian citizen V.K., who has already been charged in the case. According to V.K.'s statement, she and Daur Buava consumed part of the substance on August 23, while another portion was later seized during a search of Buava's apartment.

Investigators also determined that G.G. illegally purchased and stored 6.27 grams of methadone at his home. The substance had been divided into nine packages allegedly intended to facilitate its sale. Police seized the drugs during a search on August 29.

A second suspect, S.B., who had previously been convicted of a drug-related offence, was also found to have illegally purchased and stored 0.24 grams of dried marijuana at his residence. Police seized the substance during a search on August 29.

G.G. has been charged under several provisions of Georgia's Criminal Code relating to the illegal purchase and possession of a particularly large quantity of narcotics, facilitating the sale of narcotics and the illegal transfer of narcotics. The charges carry a sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

S.B. has been charged under Article 273 of the Criminal Code with the illegal purchase and possession of a small quantity of narcotics by a person previously convicted of a drug-related offence.

The Prosecutor's Office said it will apply to the court within the legally prescribed period seeking pre-trial detention for both suspects.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian citizen V.K. has already been charged with leaving Daur Buava in a helpless condition, and the court has ordered her pre-trial detention.

The Interior Ministry's investigation into the criminal case is ongoing.
