On May 9 at 17:00, a protest march will take place in Tbilisi, starting from the Parliament building and heading toward Europe Square. The event is organized by pro-European groups concerned about threats to Georgia's EU aspirations.
According to the organizers, the ruling Georgian Dream party is endangering the country’s European future.
“Our country has made its choice — the European family. Over the years, we have achieved significant milestones: the Association Agreement, visa-free travel, and EU candidate status. These are the accomplishments of the Georgian people, and today they are under threat from the Georgian Dream government,” the statement reads.
The organizers underline that the march is also intended as a message to the European Union, reaffirming that despite the current government's repressive and anti-European policies, the Georgian people remain committed to their historical pro-European choice.
“Despite pressure from a Russian-style regime, the Georgian people firmly support the country’s European course. We have not forgotten the November 28 statement made by [Prime Minister] Kobakhidze, which contradicts both the Constitution of Georgia and the will of its citizens. We continue to march toward Europe,” the statement concludes.
