Journalist Alex Raufoglu announced on social media that one of three procedural holds in the US Senate on the bipartisan MEGOBARI Act has been lifted, marking a major step forward for the legislation.
“HUGE NEWS for the MEGOBARI Act! One of three Senate holds LIFTED, sources tell me! Onward!” Raufoglu wrote on X.
He previously reported that Senators Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Markwayne Mullin were delaying the bill’s progress, having been misled by lobbying groups into believing the act would impose sanctions on the entire Georgian nation.
The MEGOBARI Act—a bipartisan initiative—aims to counter Russian influence in Georgia, curb anti-Western efforts, and support democratic development. It authorizes targeted sanctions against individuals the US deems responsible for undermining democracy in the country.
