Five people have been killed and 22 injured after a drone strike hit a market in the city of Nikopol in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, according to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office.
The attack took place this morning, with officials saying Russian forces used drones to target the busy market area.
Of the 22 people injured, eight have been taken to hospital. Among those in a serious condition are a 14-year-old girl and two men aged 28 and 72. Doctors say the condition of the remaining injured individuals is moderate.
The strike follows a wider wave of overnight attacks. Ukrainian authorities said Russia launched 286 attack drones across six directions during the night of 4 April. Air defence systems reportedly intercepted the majority of them.
Earlier that same morning, drones also targeted the capital, Kyiv, where an office building caught fire in one district.
Meanwhile, on 3 April, the city of Kharkiv was hit by what officials described as one of the largest recent attacks, with 37 strikes recorded across 18 locations. Ukrainian authorities said ballistic missiles and drones were used.
