On the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day, Moldovan President Maia Sandu announced that Moldova is awarding its highest national honor—the Order of the Republic—to Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.
“To honour the strength of the Georgian people, we award the Order of the Republic—Moldova’s highest distinction—to President @Zourabichvili_S. Her leadership and dedication to democratic values inspire us all,” Sandu wrote on social media platform X.
The award is a symbolic gesture recognizing Zourabichvili’s commitment to democratic principles and European integration, values that both Georgia and Moldova aspire to uphold amid growing political challenges in the region.
Sandu’s message, shared on May 26, also included congratulations to the Georgian people:
“Happy Independence Day to the brave people of Georgia. Moldova stands with all who believe in freedom, dignity, and a European future. Our journeys may not always be easy—but they are worth taking, together. საქართველოს გაუმარჯოს!”
