A court in Georgia has sentenced an individual to eight years in prison after finding them guilty of fraud involving the unlawful acquisition of ₾223,890 ($83,864).

The Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday said the conviction was secured on the basis of evidence presented by prosecutors during the trial.

The Rustavi City Court upheld the prosecution’s case in full and found the defendant guilty of defrauding eight victims by falsely claiming they could import vehicles from abroad at favourable prices. Prosecutors said the accused deceived the victims into handing over a total of ₾223,890, which they then appropriated fraudulently.

The Prosecutor’s Office noted that the defendant had previously been convicted several times for fraud-related offences.

The court convicted the individual and imposed an eight-year prison sentence.
