Diplomat Sergi Kapanadze, who served as deputy foreign minister under the United National Movement government, has hailed Moldova’s recent parliamentary election victory by President Maia Sandu’s pro-European party as a “clear example of how Russia can be defeated in a divided and vulnerable country.”

“Unlike last year’s tense referendum and presidential vote, Sandu and her government have now won decisively, securing a solid parliamentary majority,” Kapanadze said. “This is a significant achievement given the strong presence of pro-Russian forces and the resources Moscow invests to sway Moldovan politics.”

According to the Moldovan Central Electoral Commission, with almost 100% of votes counted, Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity leads with 50.1% of the vote, consolidating its position as the ruling party.

Kapanadze said the result demonstrated that even in countries susceptible to Russian information campaigns and influence operations, pro-European forces can achieve decisive victories.
