Sergi Chikhladze, a member of the opposition party United National Movement (UNM), claims that the process of imposing sanctions on leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party is already underway, with concrete measures expected soon.

Chikhladze stressed that the sanctions process follows specific procedures, with developments anticipated in the near future. He attributed the impending sanctions to Georgian Dream’s policy of isolating Georgia from its international allies.

“This is Georgian Dream’s policy, especially over the past year. They are isolating Georgia from its friends—the United States, the European Union, and European countries,” Chikhladze stated.

He also criticized the ruling party’s rhetoric, particularly that of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and MP Zaal Zarkua, for their “insulting comments” toward Western politicians, including US senators.

“They constantly insult senators. These are politicians of the same level… The offensive remarks directed at Western politicians, who are great friends of our country, are part of the isolation policy Georgian Dream has been pursuing,” Chikhladze added.

He assured that the sanctions process is advancing and that specific actions targeting Georgian Dream leaders and those involved in human rights abuses are imminent.
