Georgia evacuates Dariali checkpoint after early warning system alert

Georgia's Interior Ministry has evacuated people from the Dariali border checkpoint to a safe location after an early warning system detected a change in water flow in the Devdoraki riverbed.

The evacuation included people present at the checkpoint, as well as employees of the Patrol Police, customs and Border Police services and a private company operating at the crossing, the ministry said.

The alert was issued by an early warning system installed in Devdoraki, which detects changes when the water level in the riverbed rises above a minimum threshold.

The ministry said the evacuation was carried out in accordance with established safety protocols.

As a precautionary measure, traffic for all types of vehicles has also been restricted in both directions near the village of Gveleti.
