The Swedish Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned what it describes as a disinformation campaign by Georgian officials targeting the European Union and its Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński.

“We condemn Georgia’s disinformation against the EU and its ambassador in Tbilisi,” the ministry said in a brief but firm statement on social media platform X.

The Swedish statement comes in support of the European Union’s External Action Service (EEAS), which on Friday expressed full backing for Ambassador Herczyński following a series of hostile remarks from senior Georgian politicians.

In its July 25 statement, the EU said it “regrets and strongly rejects the false and offensive allegations” made against the ambassador, calling them “unacceptable.” The EEAS reaffirmed that Herczyński enjoys the EU’s full confidence and underlined that his work in Georgia has always respected the country’s sovereignty and laws.
