Slovenia has allocated funds to purchase American-made weapons for Ukraine as part of the PURL initiative, through which NATO member states provide financial assistance to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob announced on Monday at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
“I cannot disclose the exact amount, as it is classified. At this moment, I am not authorised to declassify it. However, it has been included in the Ministry of Defence’s 2025 budget, so it does not represent an additional expense,” Golob said.
He emphasised that the support package was focused exclusively on defensive weaponry, particularly air defence systems aimed at protecting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure from Russian attacks.
Golob also noted that Slovenia had long been providing Ukraine with defensive equipment.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said, as of October 13, six countries had already allocated funds under the PURL initiative for the purchase of US weapons for Ukraine, while seven more are expected to join in the coming weeks.
Sybiha added that practical steps related to the initiative were expected to be discussed at the upcoming “Ramstein” meeting.
