Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has been officially charged with accepting bribes and engaging in illegal entrepreneurial activity during his time in public office. According to Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee, the charges stem from actions allegedly committed between 2000 and 2018, when Sargsyan held high-ranking positions, including Defense Minister, Prime Minister, and President.
Investigators claim that despite legal prohibitions, Sargsyan was involved in business operations while in office. He is also accused of abusing his official position by establishing commercial companies through trusted individuals and later distributing shares in these companies in the form of bribes.
Following the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, the case has been submitted to court for trial. Armenian authorities have not yet specified a court date.
