Georgian Interior Minister Sulkhan Tamazashvili and Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze have paid tribute to the victims of the 2022 Gudauri helicopter crash, marking the third anniversary of the tragedy.
The ministers visited the crash site near the Gudauri mountain resort, where they laid a wreath at a memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives while carrying out their official duties.
A memorial service was attended by deputy interior ministers, senior officials from the Interior Ministry and the Health Ministry, firefighters, Border Police pilots and relatives of the victims.
The Interior Ministry said the ceremony honoured the memory of those who died during the rescue operation on 29 July 2022.
Eight people were killed when a Border Police Mi-8 helicopter crashed while attempting to rescue injured paragliders in the Gudauri mountains. The victims included four Border Police crew members, two emergency rescue personnel and two medical workers.
The helicopter went down after becoming involved in the rescue mission, with all eight people on board losing their lives. An investigation later found that the aircraft struck the main cable of a power transmission line before crashing.
