Georgian Interior Minister Honors Police Officers Killed in Fight for Country’s Unity

Georgian Interior Minister Sulkhan Tamazashvili has paid tribute to police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during the August 2008 Russia-Georgia war.

Tamazashvili, accompanied by his deputies and family members of the fallen officers, laid a wreath at the memorial located at the Ministry of Internal Affairs headquarters.

Heads of various departments within the ministry also paid tribute to the officers.

The interior minister later met with the families of the fallen police officers and presented them with the Medal for Courage, awarded posthumously to their relatives.

According to the ministry’s press service, Tamazashvili assured the families of the ministry’s continued support, saying that standing by them remains one of its most important responsibilities.

He also highlighted the courage and sacrifice of the officers who gave their lives in the fight for Georgia’s unity and territorial integrity.

Tamazashvili also visited the base of the Special Tasks Department, where he joined department personnel in commemorating colleagues killed in the fight for Georgia’s unity.

A memorial service was held at the monument in remembrance of the fallen officers.
